British Columbia has the world famous Whistler/Blackcomb Mountains – and you have a chance to trek on Jbel Oukaïmeden (3263 meters) the highest ski resort in North Africa! The trek will begin in Imlil (approximately 1 hour drive from Marrakesh). Jbel Oukaimden is in close proximity to Jbel Toubkal and therefore it is not uncommon for trekkers to combine the two mountains as one comprehensive trek. In addition to the beautiful snow-capped mountains, you will have a chance to visit the prehistoric rock paintings in the area surrounding Jbel Oukaimden. Trekking itineraries range from 2 – 5 days.
The Mgoun (third tallest peak in Morocco standing at 4071 meters) trek is in the Aït Bougemez valley – in the northern reaches of the High Atlas Mountains. The trek begins in Azilal which is a 2-hour drive from Marrakech. This is one of the best treks you will be ever experience as you will see Berbers living the way they did for thousands of years. This valley supports the local Berber people from the patchwork of wheat and barley crops which run through local cooperatives. This maze of irrigation channels and terraced hills showcase the ingenuity of the people still living a traditional way of life and gives the valley it’s lovely aesthetic. The daily trekking time ranges from 5 to 7 hours and you will be assisted by a guide, mule and muleteer. At night you will sleep in tents or little gîtes amongst the locals. The last day you will finish your trek in the Dades valley and return to Marrakesh via a 5-hour drive. Trekking itineraries range from 5 – 7 days.
The Anti Atlas is truly a dream for wonderlusters. This region offers more off-the-beaten path treks and a chance to get down and dirty. Situated in southwest Morocco, this region is much less known to travelers and one will experience a much more authentic side of this beautiful country. The red and rocky landscape and drier climate offers sublime terrain for mountain biking and trekking on less frequented trails. You are unlikely to see other trekkers which makes this area a haven for solitude. The trek is led by a professional guide with mules and muleteers. Trekking itineraries range from 5 – 8 days.
Jbel Saghro is a volcanic area between the Atlas Mountains and the start of the Sahara. The ideal time for this trek is in the winter – but you must remember that temperatures will drop at night. You will walk along long plateaus, see different rock formations, admire remote oases and ancient kasbahs. If you are up for an athletic challenge, there is also the opportunity to climb to the highest point (2712 meters). Trekking itineraries range from 5 – 10 days.
