Itinerary

Day 1Marrakesh & Ait Ben Haddou

Transfer from your accommodation or airport in Marrakesh. The journey to Erg Chigaga will begin through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka pass (altitude 2260 meters).

For travelers who have some time and would like to delve deeper into Moroccan history, there is an opportunity to visit Kasbeh Telouet, a crumbling yet beautiful village steeped in lavishness, traitorship and the struggle for Moroccan independence. After a day of travel, relax at one of the delightful guesthouses near Ait Ben Haddou (Kasbah Ellouze or Riad Caravane).

Day 2Draa Valley & Erg Chigaga

After enjoying breakfast at the guesthouse, the journey to the heart of the Saharan desert will begin. If there was insufficient time to visit AIt Ben Haddou on Day 1, today you will be given an opportunity to visit this UNESCO World Heritage site (made famous by the movie “Gladiator” and TV show “Game of Thrones”). The scenic drive to Erg Chigaga will begin through Foum Zguid (3 hour off-road drive past the vast dried salt flats at Lake Iriqui) and Taznakht (famous for hand-woven carpets by Berbers of the tribal villages).

Arrive at Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp to relish the sunset amid the magnificent sand dunes of Erg Chigaga. Spend the night at the luxuriously appointed tents after enjoying a delicious traditional Moroccan meal.

Day 3Day & Night in Erg Chigaga OR Iriqui Lake & Foum Zguid

After enjoying breakfast at Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp, take this time to truly enjoy the desert. Camel rides, sand boarding, visit to a nomad family, picnic in the oasis where Bobo was born and raised – the choices are bountiful! Enjoy the sunset while having some drinks on top of the dunes followed by a homemade authentic Moroccan meal. Cap off the night around the campfire by listening to traditional Berber music while surrounded by the millions of stars in the night sky. What a sight to behold!

Day 4Foum Zguid & Anti Atlas to Taroudant

The journey to Taroudant will begin through Foum Zguid (3 hour off-road drive past the vast dried salt flats at Lake Iriqui), Taznakht (famous for hand-woven by Berbers of the tribal villages) and Taliouine. Taroudant is located in the fertile Souss valley and the foothills of the Anti Atlas Mountains, which are teaming with Berber culture including ancient granaries and Koranic schools. Enjoy the sights of the town and spend the night in a well-appointed guesthouse.

Day 5Anti-Atlas to Marrakesh

As the journey back to Marrakesh is relatively short (3 – 4 hours), take your time to enjoy a lovely breakfast at the guesthouse. The scenic drive will be via the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka pass (altitude 2260 meters). There will also be time to visit local Berber villages such as Ljoukak and Ourigane.
